The first course is built on a loam, sand, and clay surface that extends more than one mile in the oval design. There are two courses managed at the Parx Racing Facility. Today, Parx Racing is one of the most notable entertainment complexes available in the Philadelphia region. This purchase cost them $67 Million, gave them rights to everything Bensalem had built, and enabled them to create an additional six off-track betting facilities. Six years after Bensalem Oval purchased this racetrack, they sold it to Greenwood Racing Incorporated. The improvements made by Bensalem Oval included the development of a new turf course, the creation of a phone betting system, and maintaining a live television show. It was then that the company changed the name, redesigned the facility, and offered improved betting options to their fans. It wouldn’t be until a decade later when Bensalem Oval purchased the facility from ITBA. The track opened initially on November 4th, 1974 by the International Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
